Last week I was a bit busy with Ning's Malaysian cousin who came to Singapore for her brother's wedding dinner. Somehow he came almost a week earlier so we had to entertain him. That was when I realised I know nothing about Singapore's main attractions. Well, went to Sentosa on one of the days and had quite a great time there too. Watched Dolphin Show, went underwater world and saw the Songs of the Sea (new musical fountain).

Went to Ning's brother's wedding dinner on Saturday. Had to wear formal with tie and travel by MRT without carrying anything (yea I felt strange wearing that outfit on MRT). Anyway, the highlight of the day for me was the moment when Ning opened the hotel room door for me and I can't even recognise that it was her. I even glanced at her for a second and wanted to proceed inside the room to find her. I forgot how I realise it was actually her, maybe it was her aunt or mum who pointed at her and I took a second look.

Apparently, she went through a makeover and became even more gorgeous.

The dinner was great and table gift was a nice glass-made coaster with a cute cartoon of a bride (or groom) on it.

Pictures? I'll upload some next time when I get it :)

Taiwan and Hong Kong Trip

Ok I have some free time now (not going to sleep anytime soon) so I will blog more about my trip to Taiwan and Hong Kong. I'm not going to upload a lot of pictures here since its quite tedious, so I am going to upload them all on Facebook.

Taiwan (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=23714&id=729194159&ref=mf)
Day 1:
Arrived at Changi Airport at about 5 to 6 am to check-in our luggages. Though it was super early, I guess the thought of going Taiwan was enough to inject some more energy into us. And so I took my first flight since Primary 5.

We arrived at Hong Kong first and then took another flight straight away to Taiwan. Upon arrival at Taiwan's Airport, we were surprised to see that their supposedly "new" airport was like an airport of 15 years ago. We took a chartered bus by our travel agency to our hotel after that. We stayed in Royal Castle Hotel (成都大饭店) which was just beside 西门丁 and its MRT station. The people there are super considerate! Just like Singapore, they have the "Stand aside on escalator" thingy, just that they stand on the right side. The Taiwanese people obeyed the rule considerately (not that there are fines or what). Also, they don't block the train entrance + they queue up in a straight line outside the train and don't push about even if they would miss the train (unlike Singaporeans, who block the train door and squeeze into the train like sardines).

Another good thing about Taiwan, is that the temperature there is just like us switching on air-cons in Singapore! Natural air-con!

We made 士林夜市 as our first destination. Ate the 牛排 there plus a big piece of 鸡排! They are really huge and cheap! The stalls' competition there is really amazing. Rival stalls side by side selling the same things and the owners will try to literally drag you to their stalls as you walk past them. The smell of the 臭豆腐 there is uhm.. amazingly smelly as well. As I type now, I can still smell it somehow -.-

Next was shopping at the 夜市. The 夜市s in Taiwan are like the Pasah Malams in SG. Clothes and accessories are cheap and they sell food along the way as well. Sometimes you'll see arcade shops with lots of soft toys for you to grab using the machines. Not to forget the basketball machines.

Day 2:
Day 2 was kinda bad day for us. We went to Yilan (宜阑) by train to see dolphins out at the sea and also the Turtle Island. The train (not MRT, but 台铁) is quite slow and it took us almost 2 hours to reach Toucheng (投城)! After which we still require a short cab journey to the harbour. Then the bad thing came. Upon boarding the ship, or boat, or whatever you call it, it shook so violently thoughout the entire journey that most of us got seasick and had to rest inside the cabin for the journey of about 3 hours. It took us around the Turtle Island. The worst thing is, there isn't any dolphins or whales in sight! We wasted the entire afternoon feeling sick and not being able to catch a glimpse of the dolphins.

That is not all to this "eventful day". We then took a ride offered by the super kind uncle (whom we bought fish floss from at the harbour) back to Toucheng train station and saw 2 cab drivers fighting in public. One man got punched so badly that he fell to the ground and left a pool of blood on the ground (I think he lost a few teeth or what). However, I noticed that the ambulance service in Taiwan is super efficient and in less than 3 minutes after the man fell on the ground, an ambulance came and sent him to hospital.

The only good thing that happened on Day 2 was the dinner. It was at 西门丁 in a Japanese restaurant. Buffet dinner! Ate lots of good food there and Haagen Daz ice cream was offered in the buffet menu as well. All for less than S$20 per person!

Day 3:
This wasn't a really good day as well. We took the MRT to Danshui (淡水) station to visit the 淡水老街 there. Its just a street with shops on both sides. It's like Bugis Street with motorbikes and cars travelling in between the narrow street. Imagine Bugis Street with bikes moving through it!

The lunch was free. We ate at this Japanese Restaurant (not a big one but it has a nice shop). First we saw the chef smoking in the kitchen, then a fly was trapped inside my rice (poor fly, lucky it moved, if not I'd have treated it for a black sesame and ate it). Last but not least, the highlight of the whole lunch (maybe the whole trip), was the cockroach inside the chawanmushi (yes, Ning ate a bit of it until she saw a leg and a bit of the head or back of the cockroach sticking out of the chawanmushi). I rose my arm a bit and called for the waitress and then pointed the chawanmushi to her without saying anything. She said 对不起 and took the chawanmushi away to the kitchen. Shortly after, she came back and said that the 2 meals we ate will be on the house and that they will definitely improve in the future (like I'd care to come back again). Anyway the photo of this shop is posted in my Facebook album too.

For dinner, we took a ferry to the 渔人码头 for the seafood there (supposedly). We took some photos at the Lovers Bridge as well. The dinner was at a kinda cosy restaurant beside the sea with a 猛男 singing and playing the saxophone and keyboard, wearing sleeveless shirt in the strong cold wind. The waiters there were super friendly as well, and their service charge was well earned, unlike SG's service in restaurants. One waiter even had a nice short chat with us about Singapore and Taiwan in general.

Day 4:
We went to Wu Fen Pu (五纷埔) for the shopping. Again its like Bugis Street, this time narrower but still with motorcycles passing through. Bought some clothes there. After eating the so-so beef noodle at Raohe Night Market (绕河夜市), we went back to 西门丁 and I bought a bag there for about S$32.

Day 5:
This is rock-seeing day at Yeliu (野柳). Took a bus there which took us 1+ hours to reach. NTD50 to go into the area to see the rocks and I guess its worth it. Since Singapore doesn't have any natural scenery to look at. Ate at a little restaurant and its the only day we ate so many vegetables in Taiwan. In the evening we went back to 士林 to do our last minute shopping as we will be going to Hongkong the next day.

Hong Kong (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=23716&id=729194159&ref=mf)
Day 6:
We woke up at about 5am again as our plane is scheduled at 8am. By that time we were already really tired out. Hong Kong is quite different from Taiwan in terms of the people. Apart from the language, Hong Kongers are less friendly than the Taiwanese. We tried the wanton noodles as our first meal in HK. Quite disappointed, maybe only because we ordered dry noodles, because we saw other people ordering wet noodles. The auntie in the shop is also blur. If you go to their tea restaurants, remember to look closely how they collect the money (the aunties always forget what they sweep into their cashier and then say that you never pay). That was what happened to us but we didn't pay extra coz we just walked away after some 5 minutes of arguing with the auntie.

Did some shopping at Temple Street and Mongkok later in the day. Same as Pasar Malam again -.-

The mango deserts at 许留山 is super tasty!! Must try!

Know cantonese first before going to Hong Kong next time!!

Day 7:
Went to Esprit Factory Outlet, the clothes there are quite cheap I'd say. Had some deserts at the Sweet Dynasty. Again mango was the main attraction there. I picked some random red bean and chin chou jelly dish. Was ok, but I think the mango was good.

Day 8:
On this day we went to the Peak and to the Madame Tusaads up there with the waxed figures of famous people. Took lots of photos there. From superstars, to politicians and to sportsmen. Even our LKY is there! The night view on the mountain was nice, less the heavy mist with the drizzling.

Then its return to Singapore already. Quite a long post, but I'll edit it with more details later if got time. Needa go off now. Bye!

Been long since I last blogged. Had been busy with preparing for the trip and also trying to get to drive the car more by fetching my mom around. Well, haven't been able to drive as much as I would like due to some foreseen circumstances which I don't wish to discuss more here :) I shall not be as desperate as my brother to keep hogging the wheels (since its not mine, I don't have the thickness of the face to ba zhan it). I'll hog the wheels when I can own them myself :D

By the way, this blog's aim is to serve as a reminder when I come back from my trip:

1) Sell my textbooks on iMall.
2) Check e-mails.
3) Entertainment.
4) Job-hunting.

That's all.
Yesterday was great. I guess when I am not studying, things seem to go great for me.. for some unknown reasons :/

My friend from Citibank where I worked last year with her as a temp (now she's perm) replied and requested for my resume. This is kind of strange as I didn't need to submit a resume to Citibank when I worked last time. I am hoping maybe they will offer me maybe an internship or some sort of that position and reduce the number of saikang's (jobs like photocopy and running from building to building as deliveryman). And so I sent the resume to her yesterday night. She didn't mention about any more extra positions though, so maybe I will be working "alone" there.

Probably one of the greatest things that happened yesterday was the passing of my driving test, finally. No more money wasting for that license which is kinda useless out there. Useless as in, people don't follow the rules strictly after they get the license. So in my opinion, the test is really fake. Some say, "For show only". The tester yesterday was a far cry from what I got for my 1st test. He sounds strict and hasty, but he didn't care about minute details on driving basics. The first sounded normal, but was uber picky about everything I do. So the difference in the points I got was drastic. 32 to 10. Nevertheless, this obstacle for me is over. One advice to people taking the test, though I'm not really superstitious, but I think praying to gods prior to the test is essential. The results of your test depends largely on the tester you got. And ya so you all know what I did and did not do prior to my 1st and 2nd attempts :)

The happiest thing happening yesterday is nonetheless my 4th anniversary with my girlfriend. I missed sending Simon off from the airport due to my application for license (which took almost an hour) and then the celebration of our anniversary. =)

Its Labour Day today! Holiday in a holiday, how nice. If only holidays can be carried forward...................... Ok I am joking.

These few days didn't really see any interesting things happening around me.

Monday saw the last set of tutorials for this semester end. Halfway through the day came some news that the Stats quiz grades were recorded wrongly (drastically for some people I heard). I felt indifferent to the news (mostly coz I knew my futile attempt would warrant me that sort of grade). Nevertheless, I went to check again. Still a "D". Heh. Somehow I don't feel much about the Cs and Ds that I am getting. Maybe coz I had gotten too many of them since semester 1 in uni, or say, all the way back to JC. Haha and congrats to those who got their deserving higher grades back and condolences for those who got their.. erm deserving lower grades too :/ I am just glad mine didn't turn to E. :)

Econs quiz was much better though, guess it is due to the fact that its a really simple 10 MCQs' quiz.

Tuesday was a mugging day. But I didnt do much mugging as I would have liked.

Wednesday, which is today, went to school for the last elective lecture. Not bad, finished 1 Accounting past paper. But took a lot of time doing it. And lots of referring :/

Ate at the new canteen area beside Canteen A today. The crowd is much lesser already, which is good I guess. No more squeezing around while eating at Can A again :) I didn't see Sakae though... Did I miss it? Or it is still under construction?

Hmm...

Bad Weekend of Tutorial Catching Up

This weekend is mainly learning what I should have learnt for the past few weeks for Stats. Doing the tutorials I missed as well. Anyway, I flunk my Stats Quiz 2. Thus the added effort is called for. Still, I am not really confident for regression and some of the later parts of the module. Hopefully I'll know them in due time. Well, I still skipped Accounting Tutorial 12 in the end, less Question 4.

For that, I missed the Qing Ming Festival. Felt bad coz I think it is quite important to go to sao mu, and I think I had never went to before. Or maybe once. I forgot.

One interesting thing happened though, on my way home on a cab today, the taxi driver was super chatty. Talked non-stop throughout the entire journey. About how money is hard to earn, helping people, and eventually going into his main topic of Buddhism. This is one of the very few times when a Buddhist tried to preach his beliefs to me. I'm a free-thinker, and I'll be, always. Main reason is that I think believing in myself is enough, and that I am lazy to learn and go into details for each of the many religions that are around me :)

In the end, he was kind enough to say pardon him for talking too much, and well he didn't explicitly try to get me into Buddhism too. Oh, and he has a very strong kind of accent when talking (in Mandarin). He mentioned that he lived in Taiwan for really long, so I guess he got the strange accent there. That made me go "huh" a lot of times initially, but after a while, I just pretended that I understand and go "mm" or nod my head. Its all acting to make him feel better that I am "listening" to him.

Tomorrow's a really long day. Hope it'll be peaceful and enjoyable.

Am I too relaxed? Or is it normal? I guess relaxing in such a tensed-up environment isn't that common at all. Looking at all my peers seemingly comfortably able to catch up with all the rapid tutorials and lectures, I have the feeling of being overly slack, still in my comfort zone. Most friends say the same thing, being too slack at home, but judging from quiz/exam results, I guess no one can be as slack as me :) Unless its a matter of how gifted my peers are, and how I am not. But I still believe it has to do with hard work :/

Well I am still trying to snap out of this lifestyle. Tutorials and textbooks in front of me and still, my brain refuses to put in quality time for studies. Even if I manage to start study, it is only a short-lived period of time before I start to wonder off again.

Am I too complacent? I'd say not since I don't think I have enough book knowledge to be complacent. Now I also don't know what I am typing and where I am headed to. Haha.

This week is the last week of lectures, next is the last for tutorials. In 2 weeks is OB exam. OB. I haven't even read a whole chapter in the book. Only read a few pages out of the entire book, and forgotten what I had read also.

Anyways, today is hot, as it had been for the past few days. Missing the cooler days.

Yea Stats quiz is 粹-d. Totally. Econs was alright though.

Great lunch today, ate MOS in Canteen B! (Of course its da bao-d) :)

Tomorrow's free day. So its rest time for now, though I am trying hard to start on my Accounting Tutorial which I skipped doing yesterday. This is the last week of lectures, and this marks the start of the exam period I guess. The most dreaded part of the semester.

How am I going to pass this exam period? Lots of tutorials to catch up, lots of concepts to learn still and remember. Well, cannot pass also must past right? Haha..

Hmm typing blogs makes me feel strange. Its like talking to myself -.- Guess I shall blog lesser then.. haha

Which I aim to finish by tonight as Sunday is the day for Econs. I had completely forgotten about Accounting. Guess I am going to skip that tutorial. As in skip doing it...

Gona be a short post. Forgot to post yesterday. Lazy to think of what to type out now since I am gona flunk my quizzes already!
Tiring day, much due to school and the wake I'm attending yesterday and today after school. My progress in stats is still really bad, haven't even move on to tutorial 8 -.- not to mention that I haven't study for econs too.

I wonder did NTU pay Livejournal for the ads. Or do info-systems nowadays are able to track that the user of this computer or blog is studying in NTU? Well that ad isn't at all applicable to NTU students either, its for applying to it. Speaking of which, I'll wish my cousin good luck in applying for NBS.

Long weekend ahead, more mugging needed rather than playing and slacking away. Control is the word, and I wish to master it. At least for this weekend first :)

Short post today, just to try updating this frequently coz if I stop for a day, I'll stop for 2, and eventually a week, and then months haha

Quote:
We are all part of the world stage, playing whichever character the way we want to appear to the world.

Life is Fragile

The passing of my uncle today made me think about how fragile life actually is. Recently I had also seen a clip in an e-mail, about how a person can actually just get knocked down even when the entire road was so clearly empty and safe to cross (well in the end it was just a second's difference between the safe scene and the accident).

Bottomline is, cherish every moment in life. Be grateful for every second you are breathing, be it sad or happy.

That's quite a gloomy start to today's post, so I shall try to change the mood a bit :) Today started badly still, as I failed to wake up even after setting 5X alarm clocks. I am lucky that I automatically woke up at 6.50am and managed to rush and catch the accounting lecture in Boon Lay on time (ok I was still 15mins late..)

Today is also the first time I attended the elective lecture fully alone! I really hope it will help me in the long run, as in for the final exams cause I skipped a lot or went off halfway during lectures.

NTU seems to be everywhere. Boon Lay, edveNTUre, on the walls along MRT stations, and now, as I am typing this, the banner on the right says "With an NTU degree, I take the lead. To apply, CLICK HERE NOW!"

-.-

Quote:
Cherish every moment in life.

More convenient to view comments that way... If someone know how to add that, please tell me :) hmm or can I even add that? Lol

Been trying to do stats today, its bad, I have only finished half of tutorial 7 which is the easiest out of the 5 which are going to be tested on Monday (2 quizzes on Monday, how exciting) Boring day... so nothing much to post :)

Signing off.

Quote of the Day:
It is lame to think of quotes to write here, isn't it?

This is my first blog post in dunno how many days, months and years. Some friends wanted me to blog, so here I am trying to blog something simple.. haha

Ok today went ok, I finished my accounting presentations for the semester! Econs and stats were bad as I can't understand a thing from those tutorials, mostly because no effort was put in to do the tutorials :/

Other than the usual school stuff, I got my haircut commented as "woodstock-alike" by my friends, as heard from ning after lunch today on the way home. I had kinda forgotten how woodstock actually looked like, so i googled when i reached home. Ok the hair looks abit alike.. but I am certainly not as cute as woodstock. Dead sure.

Shall make this blog short coz i will be going to try and start my stats tutorials.. time to get studying.. must try..!

Good night :)
